Pediatric Endoscopic & Open Airway Surgical Course

The Children’s National Pediatric Endoscopic & Open Airway Surgical Course is intended for specialists in the field of Pediatric Otolaryngology and Pediatric Surgery who commonly treat simple and complex airway disorders. The course is also ideal for Otolaryngologists who may not treat complex airway cases on a daily basis, but who continue to see pediatric patients with airway problems in their clinic or emergency room setting.

This course combines morning didactic sessions and interactive panel discussions with case presentations to illustrate diagnosis and management of pediatric airway disorders. A practical review of endoscopy equipment and tools is also included to familiarize the attendee with surgical instrumentation. The afternoon is dedicated to hands on laboratory sessions providing practical useful information for endoscopy (Lab Option 1) or endoscopy and open airway reconstruction in a live animal surgical suite (Lab Option 2).

Course Objectives

1. To recognize the presenting features and clinical characteristics of congenital and acquired airway anomalies in pediatric patients.
2. To understand the ideal approach to the diagnosis and management of airway disorders in pediatric patients.
3. To improve surgical and endoscopic skills used in the treatment of pediatric airway disorders through didactic sessions and hands on live laboratory with a high faculty to participant ratio.
